Version 1.0
Issue Date: May 2024

Qualification -
Unit of Competency MEM05041 - Weld using flame powder spraying
Description
Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to perform flame powder spraying, on a range of heavy or light materials and applies to welding of materials using powder spraying equipment where powders are fed through the flame and are deposited onto the surface to be built up or joined.Weld quality could include welding that conforms to Australian Standard 1554 General Purpose and American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) or equivalent. For remedial action using machining processes other than grinding with grinding wheels (ceramic or other) appropriate machining units should also be selected. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.Band: AUnit Weight: 4

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

Assessment task 1: [title]      Due date:

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

This field allows for different work environments and conditions that may affect performance. Essential operating conditions that may be present (depending on the work situation, needs of the candidate, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts) are included.

Welds include the following:

fillet

butt

Weld positions include the following:

horizontal

vertical

overhead

Materials include one (1) or more of the following:

steels

carbon steels

cast iron

non-metallic materials (plastic/nylon)

Equipment includes the following:

gas cylinders

hoses

blowpipes

tips and nozzles

regulators

flashback arrestors

Preparation and distortion prevention include one (1) or more of the following:

pre-heating

setting up:

jigs

fixtures

clamps

joint preparation

Rectify includes the use of one (1) or more of the following:

oxy acetylene

air arc equipment

grinding devices

Defects include one (1) or more of the following:

porosity

slag inclusions

discontinuities

lack of penetration

undercut

Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
